HomeworkIn Year 1, children are grouped as either Spelling Wizards or Spelling Bees to help support their individual spelling development. To make learning fun, we encourage the use of Spellingframe—an interactive website where children can practise their spellings through games and activities tailored to their group. You will receive logon information for your child to get on to spelling frame. Spelling tests take place every Friday, and your child will bring home a slip with their test result so you can see how they’re getting on. The pack that got sent home on the second day of term has information of what group your child is in. Spelling Wizards Autumn 1 2025

To best support your child with their reading, we ask that you read the decodable text provided by the school at least three times across the week. Spending 10 minutes a day reading with your child will hugely support them on their journey to becoming an independent reader. For children, re-reading words and sentences that they can decode (sound out) until they are fluent (read with ease and precision) is a key part of learning to read. By reading texts several times, children have the greatest opportunity to achieve this fluency. These will be changed weekly.
